I made 1st class reservations on Amtrak Crescent train on just minutes before midnight on September the 17th to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. The train was canceled just minutes later. On September 19, 2003 we made two more reservations for our two best friends on the same train to go on the trip with us. Amtrak confirmed these reservations and billed our credit card. We were never told that we were booking tickets on a train that had already been canceled. We showed up at the station Saturday morning to board the train all dressed and packed to go. We proceeded to the train office where we were told that there were no train running that day. We asked of course why were we booked on a train that had been canceled two days prior and not notified. We recieved no apology. When I asked why do you book passage on a train that isn't running we were told that they didn't know why they did this. Still no apology. Our time and effort was brushed off with a phone number to complain. Here I talked with Claudette Corbitt who was completely unconcerned and asked what do you expect the railroad to do about this? Still no apology even after she looked up the reservations and confirmed that they had booked us on a train that wasn't running. Amtrak had knowledge of the train being canceled since the 18th and booked our last reservations on the 19th at 11:58am. WHY WOULD YOU DESTROY OUR VACATION AND ANNIVERSARY AND NOT EVEN OFFER AS MUCH AS AN APOLOGY??? WHY WOULD YOU NOT NOTIFY US THAT THE TRAIN HAD BEEN CANCELED??????? I UNDERSTAND NOW WHY AMTRAK MUST BE SUBSIDIZED BY OUR TAX DOLLARS. WITH THIS KIND OF SERVICE WHO WOULD TAKE THE CHANCE BOOKING A TRAIN???????????
