NorthWest Airlines: New Livery

I think these new planes look fine, but the logo suggests
a doomsday clock at 10pm.

I think that it just reflects the compass heading NW and how we are heading in a great direction in the business today. Unlike the other majors we haven't even hinted at Bankruptcy to save us.

I like the new NWA paint scheme, with one exception; I wish the engines were also painted red. Otherwise, it's very classy and futuristic.

It's pretty good. The NWA area in the front could have been more innovative somehow. And the tail...a variation of one of their main competitors, JAL!

All in all, it's decent.

I don't like the fact that the logo changes depending on which side of the aircraft it's on. If you notice, on the left side of the aircraft, the compass points to the northwest. On the right side, it points to the northeast, and the placement of the "nwa" is also different.

I think it's a shame that the old logo is retired. It was one of the most clever ones - - showing simultaneously both the "N" and the "W", like an optical illusion, and also the northwest compass point.

Though I'm not sure Northwest needed to change its livery I think the change is a good one. Although not as bold and colorful as the previous look it is still far more creative and pleasing to look at than other carriers such as American, Delta, and the depresingly formal look adorned by United's aircraft. This is both modern and classy with its sleek and clean appearance. I especially like the enphasis of the compass heading on both the fusalage and the tail.

Thank God! The old paint scheme was as ugly as a train wreck! The new look gives an "air" of class that this airline has long deserved.

The only identity change that is worse than this is the identity change that has occurred at UPS. There is no unifier, there is no point of differentiation and most importantly there is no spine behind NWA's new look. I will still fly them though.

Meta designed some planes for Dusseldorf, which are beautiful. The swiss also have a beautiful planes as well. This one looks like a cheap Alkaline Battery.

Aircraft re-painting is done presumably at their main headquarters in Minneapolis/St. Paul. Could be at another maintenance base too.

yeah i doubt that they paint them at their maint. facilities. That's not really possible. I'm sure it is done out of house by an outside vendor.
