Auto Correction for Urls: strip the < >

Web browsers should be able to strip out surrounding < brackets > from URLs.
For example, take < http://omor.com/b/ > and convert it to
http://omor.com/b/ .

Many browsers have an URL auto-correction and auto-completion feature:
if the user-specified URL fails [*], the browser generates a derivative
list of similar URLs, and tries them.

For example, if you enter http://omor or even just omor in your
browser's URL box, the browser cycles through (not necessarily in this order):

http://omor.net
http://omor.org
http://omor.com

etc, and when http://omor.com succeeds, the browser loads that page
and stops.

An excellent complement to these auto-correction and completion features
would be an auto-deletion feature which strips out spurious < > , automatically
fixing
to
http://omor.com/b/

Why this matters: most URLS I receive via a-mail are padded with surrounding
< brackets > .

[*] If the domain register hijacks unregistered domains, the trial-by-error
nature of testing a sequence omor: http://omor.net; http://omor.org
http://omor.com ...
will fail, because the incorrect URLS
will generate a valid web page, rather than the 404 error they should.

About Page Two

Page Two is a feature here at FSP which provides a category of meta data,
to explain what the recurring links in FSP are. Presently, the recurring
links are presented in the LINKS section in the leftmost column, towards
the bottom.

Rather than just throw up a list of unexplained links with an implicit
click here, FSP gives you a reason to click.

Or better, Page Two gives you context, and you decide if you're
further interested.

Silly CostCo maps

CostCo is a warehouse style big box retailer.

The goal is to find a CostCo near you (assume you are in zip code 63011,
or Clarkson Valley, MO).

costco_1-50.png

Search by town and state, or by zip code.
This finds a reasonable list of CostCos.

The results show the CostCo on a map with detailed context,
and the results list each address. All good so far.

costco_2.png

Selecting the South Saint Louis link brings a page exclusively about
that particular location.

costco_3-50.png

Note that
1. The location's street (Rusty Road) in not shown on map

2. An exit route from freewys is not shown.
E.g., From I-270, should I exit from I-270, or change to I-55 then exit ?

3. The street (Rusty Road) is different from street listed on previous search
results page (South Lindberg (Lindbergh?).

Apple is much better:

Also good is the map from Pro-Retail.

Better phone synch

.Apple announces more iSync for mobile phones.

Oh, how I wanted this ten years ago.
Why program in (type, sort, edit, merge and purge)
names and numbers on your phone when I can
do it more easily on a computer ?

I hope to read reviews soon on PhoneScoop.

Better google rankings

Google rankings. Google should offer an option to number
the results so I know if a result is #12 or #17 in standings.

Fury Index

Update 2003 May 14: complete index.

What will google do to this index ? (My gift to Kevin.)

Why ? Because mousovering to see where an url leads in uninstructive for a
javascript:void(0); link, and clicking on such a link often hijacks
an existing browser window. And because most crawlers don't follow
Javascript new window poping links.

Exercise: To compare two sets of comments, open two comment windows
on fury.com at once.

Blinking find tool in text tools

Which is easier to notice:

pale blue or throbbing pink ?

I wish this choice of colour was a choosable preference for the Edit/Find command.
